AfriCOBRA: A Black History Month Documentary
amid a tide of social change and political upheavaland began to define a uniquely black aesthetic in the visual arts. They sought to make art that spoke directly to the needs, aspirations and experiences of black America, and that celebrated what was beautiful and heroic about black culture.
The design / art direction approach for this project was to use painting and hand drawn techniques to build the the main titles, chapter headers, lower thirds and transitions. The paintings / artwork were brought to life by deconstructing them into layers and animating them in a 3D space. The colors and brush strokesare inspired from a cross section of the artists' individual pieces.
We collaborated with Nola Pictures’ Juan Delcan and Kenny Morrison who co-directed and beautifully shot the interview footage. (see full credit list below)
